چکیده
The environmental menace caused by hydrocarbon releasing activities on water bodies have remained a cause for great concern. Such are accompanied the release of highly toxic and carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), which easily biomagnified across food chain, ultimately aggravating adverse health conditions in human. This study was aimed at identifying most important contributors PAHs sediments Imiringi river. Owing to oil facilities among other anthropogenic influences, inundated with pollutants settle within river bed sediments, thereby, playing an role redistribution contaminants. applied diagnostic ratios (Phenanthrene/Anthracene, Fluorene/Fluorene + Pyrene, Fluoranthene/Fluoranthene pyrogenic index total index) revealed presence mixed source (pyrogenic petrogenic). PAH concentrations ranged from <0.01 3,965.4 µg/kg detected compounds exceeding regulatory limits. high molecular mass (4 - 6 ring HPAHs) represents primary showing 94.29% distribution, while low (2 3 LPAHs) recorded trace about 5.71% PAHs. Principal component analysis (PCA) Indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene Dibenz(a,h)anthracene as principal components environment. In addition, Pearson correlation showed Benzo(k)fluoranthene Benzo(b)fluoranthene positively correlating species sediment. Overall, midstream section relatively more polluted than up down-river locations. Most notably, HPAHs higher LPAHs. may be due intensive agricultural practices such bush incineration, waste dumps along bank remain tangible contributors. On hand, amounts observed petrogenic some locations possibly spill-over’s bunkering infiltrations nearby installations.

Source apportionment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface sediments of the Huangpu River, Shanghai, China.
We applied cluster analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) with multivariate linear regression (MLR) to apportion sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface sediments of the Huangpu River in Shanghai, China, based on the measured PAH concentrations of 32 samples collected at eight sites in four seasons in 2006. The results indicate that petrogenic and pyrogenic source...
متن کاملBiodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...

متن کاملDistribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in sediments from Yellow River Estuary and Yangtze River Estuary, China.
Surface sediment samples collected from twenty-one sites of Yellow River Estuary and Yangtze River Estuary were determined for sixteen priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by isotope dilution GC-MS method. The total PAH contents varied from 10.8 to 252 ng/g in Yellow River Estuary sediment, and from 84.6 to 620 ng/g in Yangtze River Estuary sediment. The mean total PAH content of Ya...

The potential sources of 16 PAHs in surface sediments from highly tourism activities of Chalong bay, Phuket province, Thailand were apportioned. Twenty-eight of sediment samples were collected by using van Veen grab Sampler from Chalong bay, Phuket. Quantitative analysis of the 16 PAHs which categorized according to the USEPA was analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Moreove...
